Thank you if you are still reading my blog. The time keeps getting away from me. Sorry for such a long time between post. I did some more little Fall decorating. I don't have much Fall items. I have tons of Halloween things. I will get them out after October 1st. I did get my lights wrapped in my leaf garland. you can barley see lights in this picture. I have the house all smelling good with my Yankee Candle, Autumn Wreath. That is inside my house. If you had walked outside yesterday day, you would have smelled burning leaves. Just want to say WHOEVER is burning in my neighborhood, the Leaves are NOT off the trees yet. Please wait for them to fall! Sorry.... The leaves are still green. What are they burning? I think when the temp falls below 75 and there is a cool breeze, my neighbors think it is time to burn something, anything... I have allergies with burnt trees and leaves.
I can't breath or go outside to enjoy the great season of Fall. Fall Season means let the leaves Fall, not Burn them... lol
I did get the stitching finished on my Halloween Harvest Exchange. Can't show because it is an exchange.. I keep looking at the New JCS Halloween Ornament book and also the back issues. I need to stitch about 3 more little Halloween items. I may look through freebies I have saved to the computer tonight.
I did bring out a design I've wanted to stitch for awhile now....
The Primitive Needle, A and E design. I have the 40 count Mello color linen from Picture This Plus. I have all the silks, which cost a lot of money to me. I don't know if I will do this again. Everyone talks about how great it is to stitch with the silks. I will see.... Does any of my blogging friends love the silks? What is the difference in the threads and silks? Do they hold up better? Just trying to justify the money I spent... Will I have to keep lotion on my hands so that my bad chafed hands will not snag the soft threads? lol
Any feedback is always appreciated.
I need to close and start my search for some great Halloween and Fall charts. I may be back this week with my mind changed with something else new to stitch. You never know when I start looking through charts and magazines. Have a great night and a wonderful tomorrow!
Till later.....

Hi ya April, your home is lovely!
I think personally speaking that the silks have a brighter sheen to them, and yes, I think they are supposed to hold up longer than cottons. I use them sparingly because frankly, they are expensive, I don't have local access to them - as my shop doesn't carry silks and I like cottons and spend my money there. I do have silk for some special projects (if it calls for them), but don't use them on a regular basis. I've never had a problem with them snagging on my hands and I have chaffed hands more than not :)
Can't wait to see your A & E girlfriend!
A couple of my opinion tips - use a little shorter strand with silk. Some tend to fray. Use a lotion that won't stain - I usually use Udder cream - the one with black spots on the container. Don't get spoiled. So many call for silks these days, and they do glide like butter and have that 'silk sheen', but I agree that they can get expensive!
Great new project. I really don't have a feeling about the difference in threads. Many bloggers seem to love the silks. I have to justify the difference in price to myself.
Lovely decorating! I love the new project too. I agree that the silk has a pretty sheen and you also use 1 strand and there are more strands so there are many say that cost wise it is about the same. For me it is accessibility. I also love the over dyes.
I hope your allergies get better. There is an herb called Stinging Nettle.........it has helped so many of my friends with allergies. You can usually find it at health food stores. I have used silk thread in both cross stitch and regualar embroidery. I used it to embellesh silk robes that I was working on for a designer in Boston. The stitching was beautiful. However, I had to cut small lenghts of the thread because it would fray easily going through the material. It doesn not fray as bad on canvas for cross stitch, however, cutting shorter lengths of it helps as well. Cant wait to see your projects.
Hi April...I have used the silks (both NP and CC) and love them. They are more expensive at the time you buy them, but because they require only 1 strand and there are more strands per skein, it just about evens out to the cost of cotton. I don't use them on everything though...some designs just beg for them, others are more geared to cotton. I love the sheen and the way they just glide through the fabric. I have never had a problem with snagging on my hands/fingers, but if you don't use a larger needle the fabric will fray the silk. I prefer Sharon's (CC) Belle Soie silks, but will use other brands if I can't find a color I need...the color palette in silks is still more limited than with cottons. Love the PN's A&E pattern..and it will be gorgeous in those silk colors!
Love the fall decorating for the house...just finished mine last night. Can't wait for our stitchin' day trip!!
Oh I do love that design. It's one that I have as well. Mello is one of my fav colours from the PTP line of fabrics.
I have used silks and love them but I have a very hard time justifying the cost. As much as they are in the U.S., they are even more costly to order from Canada. Occasionally I'll treat myself to them with holiday gift money.
