What A Start To A New Year!!!

I want to thank everyone for the Get Well Wishes! Just a start update.. Hubby took me to the doctor Saturday morning. My doctor did blood work, came in and said I had pneumonia.... She wanted to make sure about how my diabetes was doing and kidneys.. More blood and a urine sample later....  She was not happy with me.. On top of having Pneumonia, My diabetes AC1 was not good, my cholesterol was out the top. Aspirin was added to my pill collection along with a pill for high cholesterol. I explained my father passed away at 59 with a heart attack.. Then she really got upset with me. Asked me if I wanted to live? I said of course!  Well, long story short.. I have to lose 60 pounds. She said NO MORE WHITE FOOD!  Do yall know what foods are white? Everything I eat?  She explained to make it simple for me.. Nothing White!  I have to check back in with her every month!  So, I guess I was assigned a New Year's Resolution!  Lose weight!  I started trying to eat right, right away... I had a grilled boneless chickin breast yesterday with turnip greens, and black eyed peas.  Breakfast is hard to find something to eat. I ate cereal about everyday...This morning I hard organic oatmeal made with Wheat.. and an apple. It was good..
Lunch will be a salad.. dinner is anyone's guess!  lol
I received a  blow from the doctor.. But, it did wake me up. I do want to be around to see my grandbabies grow up. Wishing myself a Happy Healthy New Year!!!

Before you know it you will be loving brown multigrain bread, brown rice, couscous etc. And it will help your diabetes cus it all releases its carb energy slowly over time so no more spiking. It is amazing how it helps those sugar cravings. I hope you are feeling better soon and honestly, it is easy to eat healthy and make it taste good. Just buy a good vegetarian cook book and adapt it to suit, that is what I do xxxx

Chocolate isn't white! Chicken is! I'm sorry about what you're going through, since I'm supposed to be doing the same thing, although I never had my doctor say "no white food" but if you think about it--potatoes, white rice, pasta, breads, rolls, etc. are all white. So we need to do the right thing to be around for our families and to stitch. Best wishes (I suppose I should be out walking instead of sitting at the computer too.)

No white food?! ugh! all the white food is so good, bread and pasta
But once you get out of the habit it will be easy, esp. when you see results Good Luck. We will be here cheering you on.
Take care!!!!

I know this was a blow---but a good wake-up call... Please take care of yourself, and maybe consider seeing a dietician to help you get ideas what to eat and not eat. My friend did this about 6 months ago and it has really helped her...

I love your blog, by the way.

You'll be surprised how much better you feel if you follow your doctor's orders. I have been since September when we discovered my chlorestrole was about to blow. I've lost a lot of weight and I feel like a new woman. Once you get used to your new diet and new life, you'll wonder how anybody could ever put such garbage in their bodies. I promise, junk will lose its taste and appeal in about 21 days.

I too love all foods white. It is a process to remove them from your life but I'm sure you will have more energy and feel so much better when they are gone. Good luck!

It's hard to change everything over night, but gradually you can do it! Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I am cheering for you. I know it will be hard, but do the best you can. You will feel better which means more energy for stitching.

Doctors are good at delivering wake up calls. :) It is hard to make changes, but I know your sweet grandchildren will be great motivation.

I know of so many people who have been hit with pneumonia this season. Knock on wood, it hasn't hit me yet and I tend to be a magnet for it.
Your doctor's advice is excellent but I know just how difficult it can be to follow. I'll be cheering you on but what I really think I should be doing is joining you.
We've switched to a lot of the "browns" but I still need to lose more weight.
Good luck and it won't be long before you're feeling fantastic!

Hope you are feeling better but it sounds like you were sick for a reason! (how long would it have been before you saw a doctor otherwise?)
If you need help with losing weight, I can suggest Weight Watchers - it works. (or at least it does as long as you work the program - drop out and the pounds not only find you again but they bring friends. I speak from experience!) I can't do it on my own - I've tried.
Here's hoping 2012 is a happy, healthy year for you!
